The Living Lab program provides a sustainability research and experiential learning platform to utilize the UMN Twin Cities campus for sustainability innovation, testing, demonstration, and learning. Any place-based research project that seeks sustainability knowledge can be considered a Living Lab. Explorations into the physical, operational, behavioral, and cultural dimensions of sustainability can be proposed.
Sound like something you would like to create? The Office of Sustainability invites students, faculty, and staff to propose projects that use the campus as a test-bed for sustainability through applied research, demonstration, and curricular projects. Special consideration will be given to proposals that support the emissions reduction and climate resilience goals outlined in the Climate Action Plan & Climate Resilience Plan. Selected proposals will be provided guidance in facilitating project implementation. Seed funding may be available living labs depending on availability and need.

Outside funding is available for Living Laboratory projects:

Institute on the Environment Mini Grants: These are available twice per year, and applicants are encouraged to apply for these mini grants to align funding and project timelines.

The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources through the Minnesota Legislature.
