M Dining Earth Day Planting Event

Join M Dining on the front plaza of Coffman Memorial Union for a free planting event on Thursday, April 22! M Dining's Sustainability and Health & Wellness teams will be joined by campus partners UMN Sustainability - It All Adds Up and Waste Recovery Services.

M Dining will be providing pots, soil, succulents, and herb seeds for students to participate in this Earth Day activity. Due to social distancing guidelines, each participant must sign up for their preferred time slot and check in at the event entrance.

SIGN UP HERE: Supplies will be provided for 100 students to plant (50 succulents, 50 herbs) and the planting schedule has been divided into 15 minute intervals for social distancing. CLICK HERE to reserve your spot. If you miss the time you sign up for, we will open the spot for walk-up reservations.

(Please note: walk-up reservations on the day of the event will only be available if the 15-minute time slot is not full. )

All students and M Dining employees will be expected to follow University COVID-19 safety policies, including:

  • Face coverings are to be worn indoors and outdoors in accordance with University policy.
  • A physical distance of at least six feet is to be maintained in all public spaces on campus.

April is Earth Month! In celebration of Earth Day, join Twin Cities students, staff, and faculty in a friendly competition against colleges and universities across the state in the Campus Ecochallenge, April 12-30, 2021! Choose and complete challenges that work for you to earn points for the team and help our planet. JOIN THE ECOCHALLENGE

Facilities Management’s Landcare team is the primary snow removal service provider for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, responsible for clearing nearly 100 miles of streets and walkways, and over 100 acres of parking surfaces. Landcare added anti-icing to the University’s winter maintenance program in 2006, which led to notable cost savings and reduced environmental impact. So, how do they do it?

As part of the 2020-21 Midwest Climate Summit, the Climate Stories Art Contest for undergraduate and graduate students ages 18-25. This contest is a multimedia art competition and students can enter work in one of four categories: visual arts, film/photography, written word, and performing arts.

The University of Minnesota–Twin Cities is proud to be a host institution of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) 2020 virtual Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education (GCSHE), October 20-22, 2020.

M Dining will expand the use of reusable to-go containers at dining facilities across campus this fall.

Installation is now complete on the Twin Cities campus' ninth and final on-campus array of the solar project! This latest installation is located in the S104 lot in St. Paul, across from the State Fair transit hub.

As May wanders in, April draws to a close, and we all continue to practice social distancing, there is plenty of time to reflect on Earth Month and the Earth Day Ecochallenge. If you’re unfamiliar, the Ecochallenge was a virtual event that took place throughout the entirety of April. The Ecochallenge became a platform for all the UMN campuses to engage with one another and with the Earth itself during Earth Month.
