UMN Green Week, November 14-19

A variety of great events are happening on campus for UMN Green Week, November 14-19, hosted by Net Impact!

Sunday, November 14th: 

Thrift Store Pop-Up

  • 4-9pm in The Whole Music Club (Coffman Memorial Union)
  • Hosted by Environmental Student Association
  • A FREE pop-up thrift store hosted by ESA, drop by and grab some amazing items, and maybe drop off some donations of your own! This event is occurring with the help of ReUse at the University of Minnesota.
  • Note: Students are encouraged to drop off materials at ESA meetings leading up to the event (Mondays from 7-8, Bruininks 512B), or contact an officer via email ([email protected]) to schedule a pickup/dropoff.

Monday, November 15th:

Food & The Environment

  • 7-8pm, Bruininks 512B
  • Hosted by Environmental Student Association
  • ESA will be hosting a weekly meeting in which they focus on food systems and its effects on climate. They will facilitate discussions about environmental justice, veganism, and so much more.

Tuesday, November 16th:

Sustainability Networking Lunch

  • 12-1pm, 3M Auditorium
  • Hosted by Compass and Net Impact Undergraduate
  • An amazing opportunity to work with sustainability professionals! There will be a variety of student organizations, corporations, nonprofits, and startups to meet!

P&G Event on Environmental Racism

  • 6-7pm, Carlson 1-143
  • Hosted by Delta Sigma Pi & Net Impact Undergraduate
  • Join us for an opportunity to meet with P&G professionals and discuss the issue of environmental racism, and connect with P&G and other like-minded students.

Wednesday, November 17th:

Skill Building: Applied Human Centered Design

  • 4-6pm, The Toaster, lower level of Walter Library
  • Hosted by The Toaster with West Monroe Partners
  • Come learn the human-centered design process and apply it to a live case. No need to prepare, we'll give you the tools to apply HCD to any problem you need. Registration required.

Sustainability and MOFS Chat

  • 6-7pm, Tate 110
  • Hosted by UMN Energy Club
  • Meet with us to discuss Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)! We will explore a brief history of MOFs and their unique properties that enable a diverse array of utilization. 

Educational Greenwashing Meeting

  • 7-8pm, Hanson 1-109
  • Hosted by Student Marketing Association and Net Impact Undergraduate
  • Come learn more about greenwashing and how it affects consumers. A speaker will also join us to chat about companies taking steps towards being more sustainable. Reusable straws will be given to all who attend.

Thursday, November 18th:

Lunchtime Panel Discussion

  • 12-1pm, 3M Auditorium
  • Hosted by Compass and Net Impact Undergraduate
  • Join us for a lunchtime panel with Xcel Energy and others for a chat about sustainable careers, sustainability best practices, corporate social responsibility, and how to set an example for the wider business community.

Sustainability Olympics

  • 7-8pm, Great Hall in Coffman Memorial Union
  • Hosted by 365 Green
  • Don't miss our fun games at the Sustainability Olympics! The event will have teams compete against each other in sustainability-based games like recycling, trivia, and more! The team with the most points will win a special prize.

Friday, November 19th:

Dinkytown Trash Pickup

  • 11am - around 12:30pm, meeting at Dinkytown Target
  • Hosted by Delta Sigma Pi and Campus Cleanup Crew
  • Join us on Friday for a Dinky trash pickup. We will meet at the Dinkytown Target to pass out materials and then will disperse and cover as much ground as possible. See you there!

Charity Gala

  • Doors open at 5pm, dinner served at 6:30pm, The Toaster - lower level of Walter Library
  • Hosted by Net Impact Undergraduate Chapter
  • Join us for a charity gala to wrap up Net Impact Undergraduate's Green Week! There will be a complimentary dinner, as well as many interactive activities, and keynote speakers. Tickets will be sold for $10.

CAP Town Hall Sustainability Committee 2022

Join the Twin Cities Sustainability Committee (TCSC)! The committee was launched in the fall of 2021 with a charge of guiding the MPact 2025 goal to “Build a fully sustainable future” as stated in the Systemwide Strategic Plan. Moving forward, the committee’s work will advise the Twin Cities Office of Sustainability on all activities, inclusive of operations, teaching, research, and outreach. This committee is open to staff, faculty, undergraduate & graduate students. Apply by 4/1.

Fall 2023 Sustainability Advocates from SUST3480 conducted a recent Campus Engagement Project at the University of Minnesota aimed to improve the satisfaction and sustainability of the campus transportation system (Gopher Trip). They distributed a Sustainable Transportation Survey, gathering responses from 57 students to assess current challenges and future possibilities.
